EHUBB have a vast repertoire of music from the 1930ís to the present day and pride themselves on being a versatile ensemble adapting to the different styles of performance for the various genres of big band music. Alongside the big band vocalist Corinne Andrew provides a touch of glamour to the heady mix of blues, swing, bebop and fusion jazz.

THE OMEGA BIG BAND

The repertoire of the band includes classic Big Band charts and others perhaps slightly less well-known but sure to become future classics, by Nestico, Kubis, Baylock, Tomaro, etc. If You like music developed out of a memorable big band jazz tradition, the charts of these contemporary writers will strike a pleasurable chord.

""Two of the finest players to emerge from the ranks of Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra are brought together for this very special show. David joined WYJO at age 13 and rapidly progressed to NYJO. At age 24, having already spent 2 years with Monte Carlo orchestras, he joined Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as a trumpeter & MD. Since then he has travelled the world performing with many of the jazz greats as well as some of the most famous names in the popular music world. He currently lives in southern France, where he leads a multinational big band.

Richard is well-known at Wigan. As one of the earliest members of WYJO, he progressed to be the mainstay of the sax section and helped to develop many of the band's players. He has played in most of the North's top big bands and is always in demand, as a superlative player and tutor.

 THE TOM SHARP

JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Led by trumpet virtuoso Tom Sharp, this 18 piece big band were the 2016 winners of the Great North Big Band Jazz Festival. Drawing on some of the finest musicians in the Yorkshire area, many of whom are outstanding soloists in their own right, the band produce a fast moving programme which features classics from the golden age of big bands as well as the best of the current bands. Having impressed at the Wigan International Jazz Festival, the band are sure to be a great success on their first appearance at Wigan Jazz Club.

 GRAINNE RYAN QUARTET

+ WIGAN YOUTH

JAZZ ORCHESTRA

We have great pleasure in welcoming Irish vocalist Grainne back to Wigan. It is now some years since she appeared in Wigan, where she worked with an earlier generation of WYJO, who she also performed with in Ireland. Her style owes much to the classic jazz vocalists, although she also performs songs associated with artists such as Diana Krall and Michael Buble. She will be performing with the quartet as well as joining WYJO during their set.

Chris is a man of many talents - musician, bandleader, administrator, author, broadcaster & much more. For this show he has recruited New York pianist Jinjoo Yoo, Texan guitarist Wayne Wilkinson & London bassist Alison Rayner. The music will comprise a mixture of standards and four originals specially written for this tour that celebrates musicians band members have known with a story to tell. Don't miss the chance to see this special show.

We are delighted to welcome back Gordon Vernick. As a professional trumepter, Gordon has performed in all musical mediums from symphony orchestra to jazz quartet, and he has freelanced all over the world. Currently based in the south-east of the USA. As well as performing, he is a renowned jazz educator, and as such it is gratifying that he will join WYJO in their set.
